What Is DCT? Direct Compound Trading, in Principle
3 min read · also published as a field note
Step one of the Waterfall is the prop farm — cashflow earned under a firm's rules. Step two is where that cashflow goes: a personal forex account, traded under your own rules, with the aim of compounding it in a way that survives being wrong. Inside Kingdom Portfolios that second step is called DCT — Direct Compound Trading on our own desk; taught publicly as Discretionary Compounding Training, the human side of the same idea — and this course is its 101.
Everything here is principle. The specific mechanics our desk runs are not published, and nothing in this course should be read as a result or a rate. What is published is the *shape* of the idea, because the shape is what makes a small account survivable, and survivability is the whole prerequisite.
The account as a cycle, not a balance
Most traders watch a balance. DCT watches a cycle: a defined start, a defined goal, and a defined floor — a line below which the account does not trade. A cycle is complete when the goal is reached; it is over when the floor is hit; it is neither until one of those happens. That framing sounds small. It changes almost every decision, because every trade is now a step inside a bounded progression rather than an isolated bet.
Floors before goals
The first thing a DCT trader decides is not the goal. It is the floor — how much of this account is genuinely at risk before the account stops. The goal only makes sense once the floor is set, because the floor is what decides how the goal can be pursued. Floors before goals is the next lesson and the most important one.
Compounding as a flow, not a promise
"Compound" is a loaded word, so it is worth being precise. In DCT it describes a *flow*: a completed cycle becomes the start of the next one, and the trader's discipline — not the market — decides whether the flow continues. It is not a promise about growth. Over this desk's own measurement the honest finding is that the flow is only ever as good as the entries inside it, and that no mechanical entry we have tested supports a fast cycle on its own. The honest state of the cycle says that plainly.
Where the trader comes first
DCT is not an algorithm you switch on. Its first stage is traded by hand, to a written process, on a demonstration account, until the process is repeatable — the same discipline the Foundations school teaches grade by grade and the free demo challenge drills. Only a proven process is allowed to compound, and only a proven process is ever handed to a tool.
How this course reads
Eight lessons: the cycle, the floor, the scout-protect-press habit, escalating on confirmation, the roof, the trader's stage, why a smaller goal is the more honest one, and the honest state of the whole thing. Nothing in it needs a live account. All of it needs a written plan.
Kingdom Portfolios is an independent education company. Nothing here is investment advice, a signal, an offer, or a description of a service. No performance figures are given anywhere in this course, and none should be inferred. Every reference to "our own measurement" or "our lab" is simulated research on historical data — hypothetical, not actual trading, with the limitations hypothetical results carry — and describes what we learned, never a result anyone achieved. The mechanics of our own trading are not published; only the principles are. Trading forex and futures carries substantial risk of loss, including loss of the whole account. Education only — practise on a demonstration account first.
Common Questions
Is DCT a strategy or a system?
Neither, in the usual sense. It is a way of framing an account — start, goal, floor — and a set of disciplines for moving between them. The entries used inside it are a separate question, and the course is explicit that no entry we have measured supports a fast cycle on its own.
Do I need a prop firm payout to start DCT?
No. Step one of the Waterfall funds step two in our own model, but the principles here apply to any small account, and the right place to practise them is a demonstration account.
